Hawkeye Gymnastics evolved out of the University of Iowa’s Department of Recreational Services Lesson Programs. It was in existence in 1996 when Recreational Services hired Daniel Coon to direct the program which was composed of recreational and competitive gymnastics for girls.
Dan’s primary task was to make the program profitable to help fund the non-revenue producing programs offered by Recreational Services while maintaining the quality in service offered to the members.
In 2002, the program was released to Dan to convert to a private business with continued location in the North Gym of the Field House. Since then the business has developed considerably and has been increasing year after year.
At the same time, Coon continued directorship of the Iowa Boys Invitational, founded in 1982 by former Iowa Gymnast, Kelly Crumley. The meet has now been running over 30 consecutive years, annually fielding over 400 competitors from all over the country.
In February, 2012, Hawkeye Gymnastics moved from the Field House to its present, 9000 sq. foot, location in North Liberty, IA. The program provides the best in gymnastics instruction, coaching, leadership, innovation in pre-school and recreational & competitive gymnastics.
